The “Successful Failures”

Published by:

Almost every human being, with a sound mind, definitely wants to be rich (get a lot of money) and have all the things that will make life worth-living. However, the truth is that only the smallest percentage of the human population enjoys this privilege of having so much wealth to enjoy life to the fullest.

So the question is: Why do some people become so successful in life while some do not? Well, here are some few examples of people who experienced failures at the beginning but succeeded later on, to become rich and famous in the world.

Famous “Successful Failures”

Scientists and Philosophers

Albert Einsteinalbert-einstein-2 I guess most people know about this genius called Einstein, right? Most of us think of him as a genius, but he couldn’t speak till he was four years old. He did not even read until he was seven. His parents and teachers even wrote him off, thinking he was mentally handicapped. He was dismissed from school and could not get admission to Zürich Polytechnic. Einstein did not quit trying until he won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921. Today, his formula E=MC2 started a whole new form of physics and it is applied in almost everything.

Isaac Newtonsir-isaac-newton Another scientist who we can call a genius was removed from school at the age of seventeen by her mother. She became widowed for the second time and tried to make young Newton a farmer. After a lot of persuasions, his mother sent him back to school to complete his education. He made a good use of that opportunity and became the science genius as he is known today.

robert-sternbergRobert Sternberg – Sternberg suffered from test anxiety as a child. As a result, he became an inadequate test taker.  He studied and worked hard to become one of the greatest personalities in the field of Psychology.  He graduated with summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in psychology at Yale University. Among his major contributions as a psychologist are the triarchic theory of intelligence, several influential theories related to creativity, wisdom, thinking styles, love and hate, and is the author of over 1500 articles, book chapters, and books.

Business Magnates

Henry Fordhenry-ford When you hear the name “Ford,” your attention is quickly diverted to the famous American car (Ford). You are right. Ford is the father of the Ford Automobile Company in the United States with branches all over the world. But wait! Don’t jump into conclusion yet. Ford is one of the “successful failures” in his early career life.  He failed a couple of times before he was able to establish himself as an undisputed automobile producer. It is one of my dreams to own of Ford’s Sport Utility Vehicles (.SUVs).

bill-gatesBill Gates – Bill Gates was not born into riches as some very wealthy people were. He was a Harvard University drop-out. He failed when he and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen started their first business called Traf-O-Data. However, Bill had his greatest success of his life when he created his Microsoft Empire, which serves the whole world with computer software and hardware. He is still the undisputed wealthiest person in the world today.

akio-moritaAkio Morita – I have never heard this name before till I was researching about people who became very successful after enduring various failures along the way at the beginning of their careers. I am very sure that most of you know about Sony Electronics, however, I am not very sure that a lot of you guys know about someone called Akio Morita. Anyways, he is the founder of the reputable Sony Company of Japan. Like the other successful failures, he started a rice cooker which was supposed to cook rice, right? Well, the device was not cooking the rice which it was meant to cook. It was burning it rather. As expected, he could not make any meaningful profit from it. He sold only 100 units. He did not let this setback stop him from trying. He went on to create the multi-billion dollar Sony Electric Company that we know today.

Harland David Sanders colonel-harland-david-sanders Most of us like to visit KFC when we really want to eat some very nice and mouth-watering fried chicken. However, we are not very familiar with the name Sanders. Colonel Sanders had his chicken recipe rejected more than a thousand times before he was able to start his famous Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant.

walt-disneyWalt Disney – Walt Disney was fired as a newspaper editor simply because he did not have good imagination and ideas. He tried his hands on other businesses that ended up in failure and bankruptcy. He did not give up on his quest for success and eventually, today, when you hear the name “Disney World,” “Disney Land,” “Mickey Mouse,” you know who is behind all of them.

Public Figures

Abraham Lincolnabraham-lincoln-2 Lincoln had his own share of failure in his career. He failed in many businesses that he started and lost several times running for public office. He did not let any of those failures deter him. He persisted until he was elected to become the 16th president of the United States of America. Today, he is counted among the best American presidents.

Winston Churchill winston-churchill Churchill struggled in school and failed at sixth grade. He had political failures as well. Finally, he became the prime minister of Britain. He was the British prime minister during World War II, and together with American president (Franklin Roosevelt) and Russian leader (Stalin), fought and won against the Nazis Germany and brought the second great war to an end. He also won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953.

jerry-seinfeldJerry Seinfeld – This popular American comedian began his career with failure. At the first night he began his stand up comedy show, he was frozen and could not talk. The audience booed when he left the stage without saying a word. The next night he mustered courage and faced the audience. From that time on, he overcame his stage fright syndrome and went on to become one of the celebrated comedians.

charlie-chaplinCharles Spencer Chaplin (a.k.a. Charlie Chaplin)  – “Chaplin’s childhood was fraught with poverty and hardship, making his eventual trajectory ‘the most dramatic of all the rags to riches stories ever told’ according to his authorized biographer David Robinson.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Chaplin. Chaplin was an English comic actor, filmmaker and composer, born in England. However, he did not become famous until he moved to the United States.  When he arrived in the U.S., he went to Hollywood but studio chiefs rejected his show at the beginning because they thought is was nonsensical. He later became a household name all over the world after his early struggles in Hollywood.

harrison-ford  Harrison Ford – Hollywood executives told Harrison Ford that he did not have what it takes to be a star. Nonetheless, he did not back down and turn away from following his dream. Today, he is one of the celebrated actors in Hollywood’s movie industry.

steven-spielbergStephen Spielberg – University of South California School Theater, Film and Television rejected Spielberg three times. He did not give up, he went to another school only to drop out to become a director.  He went back to complete his college degree after directing movies for over thirty-five years. Despite all the obstacles, he has accomplished his goals in life.

stephen-king-4Stephen King – He threw his first novel, Carrie in the thrash can, out of frustration. His wife later retrieved it and encouraged him to finish it. “His advance for Carrie was $2,500; King’s paperback rights later earned him $400,000.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King. Today, we can see King’s fame in his writing career all over the world. If he gave up and did not continue to try, he would not have been a world-renowned writer.

Ludwig van Beethoven:ludvig-van-beethoven In his formative years, young Beethoven was incredibly awkward on the violin and was often so busy working on his own compositions that he neglected to practice. Despite his love of composing, his teachers felt he was hopeless at it and would never succeed with the violin or in composing. Beethoven kept plugging along, however, and composed some of the best-loved symphonies of all time–five of them while he was completely deaf.http://www.budbilanich.com/50-famous-people-who-failed-at-their-first-attempt-at-career-success/

emily-dickinsonEmily Dickinson: Recluse and poet Emily Dickinson is a commonly read and loved writer. Yet in her lifetime she was all but ignored, having fewer than a dozen poems published out of her almost 1,800 completed works.http://www.budbilanich.com/50-famous-people-who-failed-at-their-first-attempt-at-career-success/

j-k-rowlingJ. K. Rowling: Rowling may be rolling in a lot of Harry Potter dough today, but before she published the series of novels she was nearly penniless, severely depressed, divorced, trying to raise a child on her own while attending school and writing a novel. Rowling went from depending on welfare to survive to being one of the richest women in the world in a span of only five years through her hard work and determination.http://www.budbilanich.com/50-famous-people-who-failed-at-their-first-attempt-at-career-success/

oprah-winfrey-2Oprah Winfrey Most people know Oprah as one of the most iconic faces on TV as well as one of the richest and most successful women in the world. Oprah faced a hard road to get to that place She endured rough and often abusive childhood as well as many career setbacks, including being fired from her job as a television reporter because she was “unfit for tv.” Despite all those obstacles, she made it and achieved her goals in life.

I can go on and on to talk about a lot of people who succeeded in life after repeated failures and frustrations. However, what I want us all to gain from all these examples is that, we should pay close attention to what brought these people their success stories to fruition.

Looking at their achievements, there are five distinctive characteristics that stand out of their successful careers. They are: vision, determination, hard work, focus and surrendering one’s self with positive minded people..

Vision: You will hardly find a successful person who had no vision. Vision is more than a dream. You may dream about many things and forget everything when you wake up. Vision however, stays in your memory for a long time. You visualize whatever you want to do vividly until you realize it. So to be highly successful in life, you need to have a true vision in what you want to accomplish. With your visionary instinct, you can find the means to reach your goal.  All these successful people we have heard about had visions which propelled them from ordinary to super ordinary achievers in life.

Determination: In order to get the best results in anything you do, you must have a firm grip of what you intend to do. As the saying goes, “anything worth doing is worth doing well.”You will only be at the top if you do your homework really well. You cannot be among the “successful few” if you are a lousy person. A determined person will never give up when problems begin to show their ugly faces. Without determination, many people will give up on their cherished dreams. As Steve Jobs said, “The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the one who do.” You can only rise to the top if you figure in your mind that you can do it! This means you are prepared to brave through all the storms that you will meet on your way to greater achievements.

Hard work: Tim Notke said, “Hard word beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” I do not know if a lot of successful people never work hard. The fact is that no matter how brilliant you and your ideas are, if you do not work very hard, you will never do much. “Genius is 1% talent and 99% hard work…” says Albert Einstein. So pick yourself up anytime laziness sets in, if you really want to reach the goal you have set in your life’s journey to success.

Focus: If you want to hit the “bull’s-eye” in a dart contest, you must stay focused and aim at the center of the dart board. When you lose your focus, all your darts will be flying everywhere and miss the mark, and in the end, you come out a big loser. Successful people always stay focused on the project they are working on. They do not let other non-essential items come in the way of the main projects they are working on. Like athletes running to the finish line, you must set an “eagle’s eye” on the price you have worked so hard for, and make sure you do not miss it.

Positive minded people: If you want to fail in life, just surround yourself with negative minded people, and you are guaranteed to fail miserably! Cheerleaders are there to spur their favorite teams on to victory. Hence, if you want to reach your goals and make your dreams come true, you must surround yourself with positive minded people who will serve as moral boosters to achieving your goals.

Summing up everything, you can see clearly that it takes courage and hard work to climb the “success ladder.” Nevertheless, once you muster all the qualities of successful people, you sure are on your way to reaching your dream goals in life.

Back to Square One

Published by:

When you hear the phrase: “Back to square one,” what comes to your mind? Does it mean that you should go and look for squares and get into the first square? Or maybe, if you can’t find a square, you draw your own squares and stand in one of them!
Well, “back to square one” simply means “starting all over again.”
I remember during my school days, my teachers will shout when we (the students) were learning new information: AGAIN! REPEAT! ONE MORE TIME! All those commands sent us “back to square one.” And I didn’t like going back to the beginning. I thought it was just a waste of time. But what I realized later on was that, it helped me and the other students to learn and remember whatever we learned very well, and because of that, I still remember some of the things I learned many, many years ago. I can even recite some of the English poems that I learned more than thirty years ago. Wow! There is really something good in going “back to square one”
In this world that we live in, in order to get the best results in anything you do, you should never get tired of going back to square one, because it is the road to perfection. I know that there are a few geniuses in the world, but I don’t know about anyone who can just do everything once and get the best results without doing them several times! That person should be a super-genius!
The lesson that l learned from this expression or phrase is that, it is not a crime to fail! However, it is a big mistake not to try again when you fail! It is like going for a driver’s license. Some people may go through all the processes just once and pass and get their driver’s licenses, while others may have to do it many times. But don’t worry if you have to do it several times. At the end of the day, you will gain more experience that will help save your life later.
Have you failed to accomplish some task(s) recently? If so, DON’T WORRY! Just go “back to square one” and start over. The important thing is to find the right way of doing whatever you want to do. When you find the right procedure(s), then you make sure that you do not make the same mistakes you made before. Anytime you go back to square one, find a different method that will help you get the desired results. Don’t repeat the same mistakes! Change your method and use a new method, and continue to do that until you finally get the right results.
Have a good day!

Find the Key(s)!

Published by:

It is often distressing to come across people who complain just about everything! Nothing is good enough for them! It is even more stressful to live with a person whose job is to complain about everything instead of finding the way out of any ugly situation that pops up its ugly head.

We have all heard these statements before: “I can’t do this!” “This is too difficult!” “How do I know which one is better?” “Can you do that?” And the whining can go on and on forever.

But thank goodness; there are always true life stories that debunks all complains that people make in order to opt out of even trying to make an attempt to do anything.

Life is not easy, everybody knows that. There is nothing that everyone can do easily, without a lot of sacrifice and hard work. Some people sleep very easily, no matter where they find themselves. In fact, I have a friend who can fall asleep even while jogging. It may sound funny, but it is true. Whereas, there are people who find it so hard to fall asleep, and for that reason, result to the use of drugs to help them to go to sleep.

No matter what the problem may be, the KEY is to FIND the RIGHT KEY(S)! If you can’t do something, find the reason why you can’t do that thing. Then the next step is to find alternative ways to do it so you can get the expected results. You should not just give up without finding the key to the solution of your problem! Remember, there is always a solution. The only thing you need to do is to find the key(s) so you can get to the right solution and obtain the desired result(s).

A couple of years ago, I looked at myself and saw that I have got excess weight, compared with my height. I had a pot belly, like a pregnant woman who can’t just give birth, after along pregnancy. So I thought to myself: “I am a man, so why should I have a belly like a pregnant woman?  I need to do something about it.” It was really embarrassing to go to the beach and bare my pot-belly figure to the whole world to see.

So I decided to lose some of the excess baggage I was carrying in my body. I thought there was a magic wand, like that of Harry Potter, to use to make things happen in a flash, but there is no such thing in real life. I found out in my research, that if I wanted to get rid of my bulging stomach, all I had to do is to lose weight and then it will affect the rest of my body. For this reason, I thought the best way to lose weight is to go to a fitness center, and I did! I signed up with a fitness center for one year. However, I found no difference with regards to my weight BEFORE and AFTER signing up with the fitness center for a whole year. So I thought to myself: “why waste money on something that won’t work? Find something else to do that will work.”

I didn’t give up though with my quest to shed the unwanted body load I was carrying.  As I was searching for answers, I came upon a news article on the internet, which said that in order to maintain the desired body weight; the Japanese people have a philosophy which goes: that you should never eat until you are completely full before you stop. Rather, you should stop eating when you are three-quarters full, no matter what your appetite craves. So I realized that I have been overeating, because, prior to reading that article, I had been eating until I could eat no more. But that was just one of the keys for losing weight, and I needed to find the other keys that were missing.

Then finally, I found the other missing keys: eating the right foods, exercising in open places, (like in the parks) and having a good night sleep. I had been missing all those things, and that was the reason why I didn’t succeed in my journey to the land of weight control.

After years of unsuccessful attempts to lose weight, I finally lost weight in just a couple of weeks, and now my protruding belly is almost as flat as a level ground!

You see, for years I didn’t lose weight no matter how hard I tried to get it down. However, when I found the right ways and implemented them properly, I lost almost 10 kg (22 lbs) in just a couple of weeks.

What made the difference is that I found the keys to unlock the door to the land of weight control. For over one year now, I have maintained this new-found weight, and I am making sure that I don’t go back again to square one, as so many people do after losing their excess body weight. You can do that too if you follow these guidelines.

  1. First, never give up on your quest to shed your excess body weight. Know that there is always a way to getting the desired results, if you persist in your endeavor. There should be no room for pessimism.
  2. Next, find the right key(s) that will help you to open the door(s) to the land of success. You can never cook a delicious meal if you don’t have the right ingredients.  Find the right way(s) that will lead you to the right destination.
  3. Finally, use the key(s) properly to get to your final destination. You may have the right keys to success; however, if you don’t use them the way you are supposed to, you might not get anywhere. If you don’t use them in a sensible way, you might even get lost along the way, and you will never reach the goal of which you have worked so hard for.

In conclusion, I have learned in life, that there is always a solution for every situation; for every problem. The KEY however, is to get to the RIGHT KEYS. And once you have got the right keys, use them appropriately, and don’t stop until you reach your ultimate goal!  REMEMBER, MOST PEOPLE WHO ACHIEVE EXTRAORDINARY FEATS ARE ORDINARY PEOPLE! IF THEY CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!

The Key

THE KEY: To Cure Your Incurable Diseases Computer Keyboard

In everything you do, there is a better way to approach it in order to achieve the best possible results.

I have had fingernail problem for over a year. I have been to two different hospitals; seen three different dermatologists, and yet couldn’t find a cure for it. These dermatologists prescribed some medicine (creams and some tablets) to combat this social-killer disease, but to no avail. I decided then to quit finding a cure for it, because I came to think that there is no cure for it, as one doctor told me the other time, that there is no cure for high blood pressure, but from my research, I’ve come to know that there is a cure for it.

This fingernail disease has been dragging my self-esteem level down. I feel very uncomfortable to even shake hands with my close friends, let alone with strangers, dreading their comments on my fingernails status. As a result, I began to take charge of my life. I started to search the internet to find alternative solutions (aside from conventional medicine), to get rid of this eyesore health condition.

I went through dozens and dozens of websites, and tried numerous remedies being advocated by those sites, and all of them couldn’t help. I got tired and gave up searching and continued to live with it as much as I can. However, on one occasion, when one of friends looked at my messy fingernails and felt pathetic for my situation, I began to feel the urgency of getting rid of this despicable health condition.

Back again, to the internet! I started searching once more, for the best way to cure this fingernail degradation once and for all! As it turned out, I stumbled on this website;  https://www.wikihow.com/Get-Rid-of-Nail-Fungus, and it made all the difference! I think it is Godsend, because I have been praying for a cure by hook or crook, to free myself from this cantankerous disease. This website has 1 to 3 methods to get rid of nail fungus. I tried only one of the suggestions in method 1:
Apply Vick’s VapoRub.
Administer a small amount of the decongestant rub to the nail and cover your feet with socks or your hands with cloth gloves before going to bed. Make sure to remove all moisture from the nail before applying Vick’s. I did and voilà! That was the turning point! My fungus-infested fingernails began their healing process immediately! It’s only a little over a week when I started applying the Vick’s VapoRub on them and they are clean as if nothing ever happened to them! Even the skin around the fingernails that I thought would never be good looking again, are now healing, and no more painful as they used to be two weeks ago.

What made the difference, you may ask. To me, what made the difference was my quest to find the right cure no matter the cost! I used the conventional method (going to hospital the; getting diagnosed and giving medicine) and it didn’t work. However, I tried the alternative medicine, and tada! There comes the cure I’ve waited for so long!

After this incredible experience, I came to know that the key to every successful outcome is to find the right keys and use them properly.

Every day, people try to find right answers for whatever they are pursuing; however, they fail simply because they could not find the right ways to go about them.

This breakthrough has taught me the following principles:

  1. Never give in and never give up, in finding solutions to your problems, even if takes all of your life to get the required results.
  2. Research, research and research again until you find the right ways to achieve your aim.
  3. Don’t be discouraged if you fail! Try again, and again. In the end, you will be victorious. It’s always better to do something than to do nothing at all.
  4. Don’t take anyone’s prognosis to decide your fate in anything. Your life is in your own hands. No matter what others say, you have the ultimate power to do or undo yourself a favor in reaching your goals in life. Remember, the sky is the limit! God for it; find the right answers!
  5. Finally, dare to make the necessary adjustments in whatever way possible to achieve your goals in life, whether it is to attain a successful career; a successful marriage life or a successful healthy life.

The bottom line: The key to successful endings is to find the right keys and used them properly and you can achieve almost everything you set your eyes on!

I’d be happy to hear from you too. Share your stories with us, and tell us how you found the “right keys,” in whatever you set your mind on doing. So long!
