Serving Our Communities Should Be A Duty Of Joy!
Community service is one of those things that give real meaning to life. There is nothing rewarding and fulfilling as to lend a helping hand to those who cannot repay you in kind! All around us, there are a lot of people who need help from those who are better off. No one will ever wish to be born into poverty however, because of one reason or another; some of us end in this state of destitution. For this reason, it is proper to help the underprivileged. There are a lot of people, not only in the remote places outside of civilization, who need help, but also, those living in the city slums. Some of us are fortunate enough to enjoy three square meals a day. However most of these disadvantaged fellow human beings barely go through the day with enough meal just for survival. Others get nothing at all. They go hungry for days with no hope in sight.
Wasting Food While Millions Are Dying of Hunger!
According to a recentby UNEP and the World Resources Institute (WRI), about one-third of all food produced worldwide, worth around US$1 trillion, gets lost or wasted in food production and consumption systems. When this figure is converted to calories, this means that about 1 in 4 calories intended for consumption is never actually eaten. In a world full of hunger, volatile food prices, and social unrest, these statistics are more than just shocking: they are environmentally, morally and economically outrageous. ( )
It is really sad to read about reports like these. However, you can make a difference. Why don’t you ask the community leader in your area, about how you can give to your community? Like some of my friends here, we came together and asked the community leader at our place to let us help the kids in our area whose parents can’t afford to get them private tutors to teach them English. We gave one hour of free tuition to learn English every Saturday here in downtown Bangkok. We also extended our community service to reach out to the people outside the city. We go to remote places, deep in the forest to meet the peasants and their families who really need help. We give them moral support and give clothes and other things to lessen their plight.
So what are you waiting for? Get on board and make a difference! Every little thing you do for someone in need will go a long way to make a difference in that person’s life.
